The shareware version of Speculator is identical to the full, registered version, except that game length is limited to 3 "years" of play, instead of 30 years, and stock charts are not enabled for all stocks in the shareware version.

We strongly recommend that you first try the shareware version of either of the above programs, and if you like it, then consider purchasing the full, registered version, which has a number of features that are not included, or are limited, in the trial (shareware) versions.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SHAREWARE AND REGISTERED VERSIONS OF WALL STREET RAIDER. The Wall Street Raider registered version differs from the shareware mainly in that it allows you to play very long games, if desired. The shareware version allows you to play games of up to 2 "years" (about one hour of play), vs. up to 35 years in the registered version. There is no "expiration date" for either version. Also, only the registered version allows you to:

  • Buy options on stocks (puts & calls);
  • Make short sales of stock or options;
  • Enter into interest rate "swaps" (derivatives contracts whose terms you cook up yourself, as "bets" on the direction of various interest rates);
  • Cheat (more than once), by using "inside information" or tips on upcoming mergers or other events that will greatly affect a stock's price (the shareware version allows only one such illicit tip per game); and
  • View stock charts, which go back 5 years for each company in the simulation (based on prices that occur in the simulation, not real world prices, for the companies in question -- this IS a simulation, after all, not real-world stock trading, though it may seem real at times).
